Ramona

Located west of Poway and north of Lakeside, the community of Ramona is distinctly country. Over the years, agriculture has played an important role in the local lifestyle and economy. Once a center for turkey raising and egg production, Ramona today has been designated a Viticultural Area or a grape growing region, and is fast becoming a destination for the best Southern California wines.

Living in Ramona

The community features farms and ranches where restaurants, gourmet shops, and chefs come to get their supplies of fresh produce, poultry, and eggs. In recent years, Ramona has been making its mark as a wine producing region with a growing number of vineyards and wineries.  The best things to do in Ramona are often a celebration of the town’s agricultural heritage. One of the highlights of the annual Ramona Country Fair is the Cornhole Competition where participants toss corn bags into wooden boxes called cornhole platforms.  The annual Cheers to the Valley Wine Festival showcases the top wineries in the area. In addition to wine tasting events, the festival also features the works of local artists as well as live musical performances and other activities.  Some farms in Ramona are home to unusual animals you wouldn’t normally find in a metropolitan area. You can catch a glimpse of the American bison at the Star B Bison Ranch and Hop Farm, go on camel rides at the Oasis Camel Dairy, or have a close encounter with emus at a family farm. Other attractions in Ramona are “countrified” as well. The Guy B. Woodward Museum showcases relics, buildings, and exhibits depicting life during the town’s “Wild West” days. In the fall, visitors enjoy the Corn Maze at Mountain Valley Ranch. Old Town Ramona, the village downtown, has a quaint Americana feel and is home to a popular antique store, as well as cozy shops selling everything from books to clothes.
