Lakeside

The community of Lakeside was originally developed around Lindo Lake, a natural lake located at the foothills of the Cuyamaca Mountains, approximately 23 miles from Downtown San Diego. Over the years, three additional lakes were created in Lakeside – Lake Jennings, El Capitan Reservoir, and San Vicente Reservoir.

These lakes provide plenty of recreational opportunities for residents. Lakeside locals continuously strive to maintain the community’s rural character and preserve its agricultural heritage despite the region’s rapid urbanization.

Living in Lakeside

Activities in Lakeside are mostly centered around the four lakes in the village and the beautiful parks that surround them. The lakes are stocked with rainbow trout, largemouth bass, and catfish for sport fishing. Visitors can go jet skiing, wakeboarding, and boating at El Capitan and San Vicente. Lake Jennings is a popular destination for camping, hiking, and other outdoor activities.

Lindo Lake County Park features picnic areas, a skate park, a playground, a baseball field, and other facilities. It also includes 17 fitness stations for free outdoor workouts.

Thanks to the preservation efforts of the community, Lakeside has maintained much of its rural traditions, including the Lakeside Rodeo which the town has been staging since 1920. The equestrian and farming lifestyle remains strong in the village, with small scale farms and riding trails found all around the area.

Lakeside boasts an award winning library system and a community center that offers various programs and workshops for residents of all ages. For nightlife, there’s Barona Resort & Casino, a facility operated by the Barona Band of Mission Indians. In addition to game tables and slots, the casino is home to the Barona Creek Golf Club as well as a hotel and several award winning restaurants.
